What is the best diet for you? For your health, your energy, for your longevity?
There are many ever-changing philosophies when it comes to macro nutrient intake (high carb, low carb, high fat, low fat, etc) that you can get whiplash or live in perpetual confusion regarding what is the “best” way to eat.
Most diets are implied to be an abrupt change in the way that you eat and what you eat… and most are not long-term solutions.
Underlying what you’re eating is why you eat the way you do and how you eat.
These are the aspects of nutrition that I want to focus on because I feel like they are neglected and not discussed as frequently. These answers are the key to a lifestyle that is not only sustainable but enjoyable and adaptable!
Are there any foods that will keep you from losing weight?
In a word, no.
It’s a culmination of ALL of your choices that keep you stuck.
The world’s best diet is… (drumroll, please) – whatever works best for you.
Your friend or neighbor may have lost 100+ lb on the latest fad diet, (keto, gluten-free, low carb, vegan, whole foods etc) but that doesn’t matter if you can’t go 2 days without a piece of bread or some fruit or a potato chip and you feel restricted.
Restriction is a state of mind (that’s a whole different post, but we’ll get there eventually) – and what you’re eating is important, but not nearly as important as why you’re eating.
There are always good, better and best choices.
Is a piece of fruit more filling than a piece of chocolate?
I would argue yes but sometimes my brain wants that chocolate.
Your diet is your habit of eating. It is whatever you do consistently. No one meal or one food is going to make or break you.
Your pattern and consistent habits are what can help you or hinder you as you learn to love your body and feel your best. It’s a learning process that can be super exciting but also daunting and scary at the same time.
A coach and accountability partner can help get you there faster (remember our brains always want to trick us into feeling safe, seeking pleasure and avoiding danger) and can often see patterns that you’re not aware or conscious of.
Whatever path you choose, make sure it works for you and you’re taking it because it’s taking you closer to your goal and helping you feel energized, alive and healthy.
